Collection: Neville Goddard

Neville Goddard (1905–1972) developed one of the twentieth century’s most distinctive systems of imaginative spirituality. Working within the broad New Thought tradition while departing from many of its conventions, he taught that consciousness is the fundamental reality of experience and that disciplined imagination can be used to enter new states of being.

His practical vocabulary—assumption, revision, living in the end, the feeling of the wish fulfilled, and the creative power of “I AM”—is inseparable from his unusual reading of scripture. Neville treated biblical figures and events primarily as symbolic dramas of consciousness rather than as a conventional historical theology, eventually identifying the awakened human imagination with Christ.

The earlier books emphasize what Neville later called the Law: the deliberate use of assumption and imagination to alter experience. His later lectures increasingly turn toward the Promise, a mystical account of divine sonship, spiritual rebirth, pre-existence, and the fulfillment of scripture within the individual. Reading both phases is essential to understanding Neville beyond modern manifestation culture.

Start with At Your Command (1939) for the teaching in concentrated early form. Continue with The Power of Awareness (1952) for his most systematic treatment of consciousness and assumption, then Awakened Imagination (1954) for revision, inner speech, and his identification of imagination with the Christ of scripture.

To move into the later mystical teaching, explore lectures such as Pre-Existence (1969), The Divine Body (1968), and The Power and The Wisdom (1968).
