"Let Every Man Prove His Own Work"
Ever and anon students of Theosophy are charged with a lack of
enthusiasm and of action in the wide field of social service.
Complaints have again been heard that the U. L. T. does not take up any
branch of active work for the amelioration of the people.
It is an old story: In the days of H. P. B. the question came up and in her
usual masterly fashion she examined the complaint and answered the
charges in Lucifer, Vol. I, p. 161 for November and p. 326 for December 1887.
These answers are now reprinted in this pamphlet.
In the West, with the growth of science the influence of religion
began to wane.
The religious instinct expressed itself in social
service. In India social service is more directly touched by that
instinct, while in Christendom, especially in Protestant countries it
is more prevalent among free thinkers.
But the ideas and arguments of H. P. Blavatsky are applicable to East and West alike.
